Deer Archery Hunt

The City of Menomonie Common Council (per ordinance 5-1-3(B)) approved deer archery hunting on the following public lands: parts of Phalen Park and Menomin Park.  The Common Council determined hunting on those public lands were necessary for proper game management and/or to protect persons, parks or other public property. Hunters must:

  1. Have a hunter's safety permit; 
  2. Have a WI DNR archery license;
  3. Submit to a background check by the Menomonie Police Department; and
  4. Pass an archery proficiency test.

When participating in the hunt, hunters must:

  1. Hunt from an elevated stand of not less than five (5) feet above ground level.
  2. Not hunt over or adjacent to a bait pile nor shall baiting be permitted at any time.
  3. Report killed deer within 72 hours to the City Recreation Department and complete a City of Menomonie Hunting Log.
  4. Immediately bag the viscera and remove the carcass within two (2) hours of field dressing a deer.
  5. Use authorized nuisance tags or follow the WI DNR hunting rules and regulations for harvesting deer.
  6. Comply with all WI DNR hunting rules and regulations.
  7. Hunt only with a compound bow or, if permitted, with a crossbow.
  8. All hunters are encouraged to harvest antlerless deer.  However, if hunting with a nuisance tag, only antlerless deer may be harvested.
