A rooming and lodging house license is required when a rental property is occupied by three or more unrelated individuals.
A rental permit is required when a rental property is occupied by a family or no more than two unrelated individuals.
An annual inspection is required. The license year is December 1 through November 30. An annual cover letter is mailed to the landlords at the end of October of each year. A pre-printed rooming and lodging house license application or a pre-printed rental permit application is mailed along with the notice for the annual inspection. Property managers may request the pre-printed application be mailed to their office. The landlord will still receive our annual letter.
Additional information on the requirements for a rooming and lodging house license or rental permit can be found in City Code Title 3 Chapter 10 and Title 9 Chapter 2 at http://www.sterlingcodifiers.com/codebook/index.php?book_id=692
